David Meaney, PhD

Chair, Department of Bioengineering

 

David Meaney joined the Penn Engineering faculty in 1993 after receiving a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania. His current research focuses on understanding the mechanical cues that regulate injury, repair, and growth in cells and tissues of the central nervous system. Applications of the work include understanding the causes and treatments for traumatic brain and spinal cord injury. He holds a secondary appointment in the Department of Neurosurgery within the School of Medicine at Penn. Meaney serves as the Solomon R. Pollack Professor and Chair of the Department of Bioengineering in the School of Engineering and Applied Science.
