Associative Memory and Behavior Change
I will talk about two papers that harness associative memory to facilitate behavior change over time. This first, Reminders Through Association (w/ Katy Milkman) harnesses associative memory to tie future intentions to distinctive cues one will face in the future when the intentions can be enacted. The second, Poison Parasite Defense (w/ Jessica Lasky-Fink and Robert Cialdini) harnesses associative memory to parasitically attach a (poisonous) response to a political opponent’s deceptive advertising so as to neutralize the deceptive advertising.
