Criminal responsibility and psychopathy: Using psychological science to challenge the legal conception of responsibility
Individuals with psychopathy have long captured the imagination. The names of famous individuals with psychopathy, such as Jeffrey Dahmer and Ted Bundy, evoke a morbid curiosity. The crimes committed by these men are so vicious, so unfathomably cruel, that it’s impossible to imagine how someone could do such a thing. In today’s talk, I will highlight psychological research on psychopathy and the utility of this research for challenging the legal conception of responsibility for those with psychopathy. Further, I will discuss the promise of personalized medicine for changing neural and behavioral patterns, even for what many consider is the most recalcitrant treatment population.
Pizza will be served. Please bring your own beverage.
