AI for Gun Violence Prevention: Opportunities and Challenges
This talk will explore the potential of artificial intelligence and social media to aid in gun violence prevention, addressing both the promising opportunities and the ethical, practical, and technical challenges involved. Dr. Desmond Patton, Schwartz University Professor and Director of SAFELab at the University of Pennsylvania, will discuss his latest research on AI algorithms designed to analyze social media data to identify early signs of violence and trauma. Highlighting real-world applications, he will critically assess AI’s role in supporting interventions without perpetuating harm, emphasizing the need for community-informed, interdisciplinary approaches that prioritize ethical data use and youth safety.
