Brain lesions as a window into the mind

Aaron Boes is a neurologist and neuroscientist at the University of Iowa, home to the Iowa Neurological Patient Registry. This Registry is a rich dataset of more than 1000 individuals with focal, acquired brain lesions with detailed cognitive, mood, and personality assessments. In this talk he’ll discuss insights about brain structure-function relationships gleaned from studying these individuals. The talk will include stories of individual patients as well as large group studies that incorporate state-of-the-art methods of lesion analysis and lesion network mapping. He will discuss recent work on mood and mind wandering and the potential link between them.
