Using experiments to understand the role of human behavior in conservation programs

Human institutions and behaviors are a critical component of conservation programs. Conservation programs often rely on changing human behaviors or institutions to achieve environmental and human well-being goals, and broader support for conservation programs may depend on people’s perceptions and behaviors as it relates to environmental change. I will provide examples from the US, Kenya, and Indonesia (and the pantropics) to highlight how I have used experiments to test conservation strategies, evaluate equitable conservation approaches, and understand potential losses to human well-being through environmental and climate change.
